It's time to get organized

Do you find yourself constantly searching for things you use almost every day?

Maybe you miss a lot of appointments.

Maybe you can never find anything to wear, not because you don't have enough clothes but because you can't find the clothes you need.

If any of this sounds like you, then you suffer from chronic disorganization.

Many people suffer from chronic disorganization. It's like an illness that makes you late for work, miss doctor's appointments, and feel like pulling out your hair when you just can't find what you need. Don't worry; there's a cure! It's time to get organized!

Getting organized is not an easy thing to accomplish, especially after a lifetime of chronic disorganization. But whatever the saying, you can teach an old dog new tricks! You can get organized, and stay organized, through careful planning, critical thinking, organization skills, and a lot of self control.

The first step toward a cure for chronic disorganization is to admit that you are disorganized. Just because you know which pile of stuff your jeans are in doesn't mean you're organized!

As they say, knowing is half the battle.

The second step toward a cure for chronic disorganization is to declutter your home. That means you have to part with some stuff. Everyone has stuff that overruns their home, garage, shed, and other buildings.

The phenomena is so widespread that George Carlin, a popular comedian, did an entire thirty minute skit on the subject of people's stuff.

Getting rid of your stuff is simple, however difficult it may be. If it holds no sentimental, little monetary value, and you haven't even looked for it or used it in months, it's time for the stuff to go.

If no one else could possibly use it, throw it away. If you think your junk could be another victim's clutter, feel free to donate it to a thrift store or charity.

The third step toward a cure for chronic disorganization is to find a home for everything you do need. That means that each item in your home should have its own place to live, a place where it belongs when not in use. If such a place does not exist for an item, make sure it's not clutter.

The fourth step toward a cure for chronic disorganization is to ban clutter from your home. If something comes into your home, make sure it has a place to belong immediately!

If you can't find a place for it, then something else might have to leave. If the item is temporary, make sure it doesn't overstay its welcome!

The final step toward a cure for chronic disorganization is to buy a planner.

Simple day planners can be found at a dollar store or discount store for a dollar or two.

Use the planner to record phone numbers, appointments, and birthdays. Keep it with you at all times, by the phone, in your purse. Write down everything important in one place, and you'll always be able to find it later.
